The City of Austin is hosting its third annual Career Expo April 16 in an effort to build a stronger community by providing opportunities for attendees to find jobs.
The free event will be from 1 to 6 p.m. at Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road. No registration is required.The Career Expo will include more than 100 employers. Attendees will learn about more than 2,000 available job openings throughout the community in areas including information technology, engineering, manufacturing, retail, banking, healthcare, sales, administrative, and labor.

Title: Quality Control Inspector
Department: Center for Housing & Emergency Home Repair
Reports To: Manager
Classification: Non-Exempt

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs assigned routine inspection on materials, work in process, or finished projects where results are compared with contract and/or agency quality of standards. Conducts routine deck inspections of roofs during progress and final inspections upon completion. Reports results to contractors or supervisor who will make an analysis and take necessary corrective action.

2. Responsible for inspecting repair work for quality and completion of project.

3. Assists with initial intake process and work requisitions.

4. Monitor and conduct periodic inspections of on-going work.

5. Inspect jobs upon completion to ensure compliance with funding contract.

6. Conducts 30 day follow-up on all repair work and reports findings.

7. Notifies contractors of work not in compliance and request required corrective actions.

8. Keeps abreast of warrantee call backs on work performed and inform contractors.

9. Meets with clients upon completion of work to ensure client satisfaction with work performed.

10. Addresses client complaints and ensure follow-up to concerns.

11. Acts as quality control clerk, maintaining all quality records for the agency including final inspection form.

12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Knowledge of housing construction techniques and relevant codes.

2. Knowledge of roofing, plumbing, and electrical works.

3. Ability to maintain and build professional and cooperative relationships with other agencies, contractors, clients and agency staff.
Education and/or Experience

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. A minimum of three years experience in residential construction or working knowledge of roofing, plumbing and electrical construction.

3. Lead Based Paint Assessor/Inspector Certification.

4. Must have good interpersonal skills.

5. Must be familiar with the City of Austin.
Other Requirements

1. Must have transportation and valid driver’s license.

2. Must be able to work flexible schedule as needed.

Title: Construction Specialist
Department: Center for Housing & Emergency Home Repair
Reports To: Manager
Classification: Non-Exempt

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for initial inspection and assessment of housing problems.

2. Works closely with clients and contractors to identify and resolve problems.

3. Coordinates the construction activities after initial take of client through the bidders packages for the subcontractor.

4. Approves completion of construction project by taking pictures and documenting the completion of the project.

5. Solicits phone and written bids for contractors, prepares bid packages for contracts and oversees the distribution of jobs to contractors.

6. Responsible for maintaining program service list and respond to clients about their status.

7. Provides information and referral services to clients in need of services provided by other organizations.

8. Assist with compiling data and reports as needed.

9. Perform related work as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and Abilities

1. Ability to maintain and build professional and cooperative relationships with other agencies, contractors, clients and agency staff.

2. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

3. Knowledge of federal and funding contract rules, regulations and policies as they relate to housing.

4. Knowledge of housing, construction techniques and relevant codes.

5. Knowledge of roofing, plumbing, and electrical works. 6. Ability to evaluate, trouble-shoot and problem solve housing related problems.

7. Ability to evaluate contractor bids and prepare bid packages.

8. Ability to supervise and coordinate repair activities and personnel.

9. Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently and as part of a team.
